Looking for a bit of help folks. Have 10k to spend and I'm looking to get an '08 vehicle with less than 80k mileage if possible.
My budget is €10k. I can stretch to €10,500 if possible. I would prefer to keep within the €10k budget though.

Want a vehicle with a bit of boot space and room in the back seats (due to child's buggy in boot and car seat in back seats) so I've been looking mainly at Passats and Avensis'.

The best I've found so far is an '08 Passat in NI which I can get for £6500 (€8000e) and which would cost €2400 to VRT. IT has 59k mileage and a full service history.

Anyone see anything they'd recommend online lately?
I know the tax system is due to change next year but I want to keep to within '08 or above as the plan is to keep the vehicle 4 years, drive it into the ground and then change again.
I'd also prefer to buy in ROI but the prices up here just seem to be higher than NI and with higher mileage. One of the best Passats I could find had 90k mileage and was still 10k. It's now sold it appears as well as not online anymore. It had 30k more mileage than the NI model I've picked out above though which would only cost €400 more.

Cars aren't exactly my strong point so that is why I'd appreciate the help. I'm no good when it comes to the different extra, specs etc.

To be honest though, I'm looking for reliability and something that'll do good mileage rather than something with flashy extras.

I looked at Passats, too. I had one before. Lovely quiet drive and plenty of space. Like you, my concern, biggest, I would say, is reliability. And for that reason I chose a Mazda 6. I found the 1.9TDI Passat very sluggish with just myself in it. I've hear loads of people talk about problems with flywheels and fuel injectors (post 2008 should be okay regarding the fuel injectors, tho) and the electronic handbrake (the answer to the questions no one asked! I forked out thousands in repairs for my Passat in a few short years I had it. Have a look at the Avensis too, but not the 1.8 petrol.

Just to close this, ended up going for a 1.8 125bhp 2008 Ford Mondeo Zetec. Happy with it so far.
