    Hi guys,

Can the Cork City council move your car (and expect you to pay an extra 40 euro on top of your fine) for parking on a double yellow without causing obstruction?

I parked here the other day http://url.ie/f93t (at the edge of the double yellow on the left), got the love note from the council stating the fines in the post. When I arrived my car was moved forward one space to just beyond the double yellow.

I'll happily pay the 40 euro fine, I'm just wondering if its worth trying to contest their moving of my car if they're going to try and charge me 80

What evidence do you have it was the council who moved your car? I would have thought if they were going to move it anywhere it would be to an impound.

If the car is parked illegally they will fine you for it, if its causing an obstruction, you will get fined & moved.

I drive that road every day, its a nightmare at times, single lane only at times with all the illegally parked cars. Your lucky the Council dropped the car lifters and clamping.

"A towing relocation service will come into effect whereby cars obstructing traffic will be towed to a nearby street and a charge of €40 will be applied"

No. Since double yellows are there for a reason, makes perfect sense to move it somewhere its not causing any hassle and fine you. The alternative is clamping which doesn't remove the obstruction or impounding the car which is slow and costley for everyone.

Thanks Alias. I guess its worth noting then (for anyone that comes across this thread on Google) that a 40 euro fine for parking on a double yellow in Cork is in fact 80 euro.

Was my exact source of confusion, as there was no traffic obstruction.

So cars coming from either direction wouldn't have been inconvenienced in any way?

If they're busy they just move the car, if they're quite they impound it. You were lucky there was a space near where you parked illegally, they can drop the car anywhere there's a legal space.

You got the cheaper of the fines for parking illegally and want to appeal. Appeal away, I hope they charge you for removal to the pound and storage.

thats hilarious - look at the road, like I said I drive it every day. Illegally parked cars on both side reduce the road to single lane.

Theres enough space on that particular stretch for two cars to pass eachother with one parked at the side.

At the very most its causing as much obstruction as the legally parked car right in front of it.

I'm not trying to justify parking on a double yellow at all, just questioning what exactly constitutes to an obstruction.

I drive the same road myself. The cars that are parked on that road are parking completely legally. Except for me and the double yellow line ;-)

So it was an obstruction so?

Thanks for the advice anyway guys, I'll avoid putting in an appeal and pay the fine.
