It's a second hand iphone that I got and used the back up from itunes that I had from the phone that I lost. The boards app was doing the same so I deleted it but now can't seem to get it back.

What boards app? Have you tried rebooting the phone. Hold the power and home buttons together until you see an apple on screen

Can't get it back? As in that it won't install again?

Safari app closing, is the phone jailbroken, if so check what tweaks are installed in cydia.
    Try what Guil posted above
As a last resort reset the phone and erase all settings

The rebooting didn't work. I don't know about it being jailbroken. there was an app called cydia on it when I got it but thats the same as the safari, goes off after a second.
Another problem is the mail account. It's just a blank screen even though my email account settings were transferred from the back up I had on itunes. It just goes blank and nothing happens.

All you have to do is download a free app from the app store.

I'm not sure why it how this is the cure but it is.

I'd bet its a tethered jailbreak. Download the latest version of redsn0w and run it with the iPhone connected and select just boot tethered

What iPhone is it and what firmware and baseband. Did you buy the phone as unlocked. If so it could be software unlocked and updating it in iTunes will lock it again

    No good.
I'll have to try that redsn0w thethered jailbreak thing, whatever that means.
I don't know what firmware and baseband are.
    Thanks.

Go to settings>general>about. Look for version and modem firmware. These are firmware and baseband.

Version is 5.1 (9B176) and Modem Firmware is 04.12.01.
I downloaded the Redsn0w thing and all that appeared on my laptop screen is Teamviewer 7. I don't understand that.

If all else fails you can restore the phone via itunes, this will wipe the phone clean though - contacts, musics, apps and remove jailbreak. It might also make phone work with your current sim card.
Is the phone backed up to icloud or itunes?

The contact details seem to have gone to icloud. There isn't a problem with the sim. If I just connect to itunes will the restore option be there?

Did that Biko, all sorted now, thanks. Took about 4 hours but it's perfect now.
