Just got my canon 24-70 L back from Zerohamster on these forums (previous post on this was here). It stopped working due to a diaphragm fault and was out of warranty.

Its now flawless again, and repairs cost a lot less that they would had i sent it back to canon with no warranty.

FYI to anyone here with a problematic camera or lens, give zerohamster a shout, he does amazing work, and is a gentleman!

Hey zerohamster...I've a Tamron 28-200 which I bought secondhand fairly cheap...only just realised that there is a crappy scratch or two, well one big one really, and it's ruining my pix! Thing is, the actual shots are great, lovely and colourful, but I have to fix this or dump it....And I don't like dumping things! Lens is a Canon mount and I'm using it on a 1D Mk 2 N...

    UPDATE
It's the camera, just tried another lens and same result...scratch-like marks on every image

Heya, sounds like dirt/hairs on the sensor and if so will show up more prominently when shooting with a high aperture value (try shooting the ceiling or wall at f22).
You can easily work out if it is dirt/hairs by taking the photo handheld of a wall or ceiling and move the camera around whilst taking the photo (at f/22 it should be long enough to allow movement). Any spots that show up are dirt/hairs or could also be scratches or fungus on the sensor.

The movement whilst taking the shot means that you won't mistake a piece of dirt on the wall or ceiling as being on the sensor.

Try that out and if you can post the results of the shot it would be easier to tell what it is.

I can clean it for you also if you want to PM me for details?

No prob at all, talk to you then and have a great Christmas!
I certainly had a nice Christmas dinner tonight anyway :)

I can't suggest anything helpful regarding getting batteries quickly though I'm afraid but would suggest perhaps giving the local camera shop a call in case they have any in stock or failing that order online but in that case you wouldn't have then quickly given the time of the year.

Gortan60, there's a camera shop on the quay I think ? Never been there myself, and heard mixed reviews, but if it's only for batteries that should do.

ZeroHamster happy Christmas, and an early happy and busy New Year to you, and glad to say my 300mm Pentax lens is still going great, all thanks to you :).

Still haven't got the K-5 by the way, the K-x is working fine, some day I'll upgrade ...

Thank you very much :) Merry Christmas and a very Happy and fullfilling New Year to you also! I'd be happy to be kept busy indeed when the New Year begins.

Glad to hear the lens is still going strong and I certainly hope it lasts the lifetime of it's requirements. Glad it was also just the aperture lever catch that had broken on it in the end.
One of these days you'll see a deal you can't resist on a K-5 and that'll be it haha ;)
I keep getting tempted to go full frame but I keep having to remind myself that I don't really need it...but I'd like to pick up a Canon 24-70L some time if I manage to justify the want hehe.

    Enjoy the Holidays!

Ya, went there during the year for a battery for a different camera and he seemed ok, I got a good deal at the time. I'll fully discharge the ones I have and charge up again, I only have the 1D with two weeks and the previous owner hadn't used it much over the last 12 months so maybe the batteries are just "stale". I'm still adjusting settings and getting used to the beast as it's def the most advanced piece of gear I've had to date. Love using it so far tho'...all the best for now.

Will do, apologies, it was my mistake. Until yesterday I had never even heard of zero but he would seem to be THE head honcho when it comes to camera repairs. Again, it was my mistake in posting in wrong area, I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to boards!
