Calendar sync? Google?

Apologies if this one of numerous threads like this, I searched but only found much older discussions.

Basically, all I want to do is sync my iCal to my iPhone but since im running snow leopard iCloud seems to be utterly useless. Therefore I figured syncing from iCal to Google Calendar is the best way to go (probably a bit handier too) but the only instructions I can find are completely one-way, gCal to iCal rather then the other way around, which is what I need.

Has anybody been able to successfully sync iCal to their Google Calendar? Is this even possible...?

Cheers all, apologies again if this has been covered.

When you add your gmail/google apps account to your iPhone, it should give you a slider button to enable the calendar for that account. Have a look in Settings under "Mail, Contacts & Calendar". You can also add the same in System Preferences on the mac under the same heading.

Appreciate the reply acous but that seems to be only one-way too. Im specifically trying to figure out a way of syncing what has been created in iCal to Google. So im creating events in ical or on the phone and they automatically show up in google. Ive heard that this might not be possible but I cant seem to find anything definitive.

Have you added your google account in ical by going to ical/preferences/account

For the events already created on ical you can double click on the event and click edit, then click where it says calendar and change it to you google account. Should sync to you google calendar then.

Ah I see, try "edit - select all", then right click the items (edit: secondary click, usually two-finger click) and choose which calendar you want them to be associated with... google in this case. You'll have to go month by month as it doesn't seem to be possible in the year view. You can command click individual items if you don't want them all to be associated with the same calendar.
