OK, I'm looking for suggestions here ....

I'm documenting one of my customers systems. It's for other people when I'm on holidays, so I don't really want to write a 500 page word document.

The overall system is made up of about 5 Oracle schema's 2, MS DB's and a bunch of 'stuff' (various web connections, Oracle forms/reports etc, etc)
I want to have something, where you see just the main systems, (say the primary DB schema) and click on it and see what it is made up of (tables/procedures), then click on a table and see that it connects to a couple of triggers, which go to other tables or over a DB link to another DB or a pull system from a vb app which populates one of the MS DB's.

I'm thinking of using Visio, but is there a better solution?

I guess something like mind mapping software?

FreeMind is mind-mapping software that might fit your purpose. You can do things like expand node, add links, colours, styles etc. It's pretty handy to use which I guess is necessary since you're going to be adding it all by hand.

Of course if you were handy with javascript/php you could probably whip up a web interface for showing each system part.

edit: And whoever's perusing your mindmap will also need to have freemind ..
