Unusual situation - advice needed

I'm in a very unusual situation.

I've just been given a permanent job for 3-4 years.

I basically work my own hours (I'm my own boss) and am pretty well paid (I appreciate how lucky I am!).

I've no mortgage or debt. I've a good family and great girlfriend.

I want to do something else over this 4 year period (learn a new skill, develop myself).

I was considering doing something random like building a boat from scratch, but I thought I'd come on here first for ideas.

    Any suggestions?

Learn Elvish. So then the next time you watch Lord of the Rings, you won't have to read the subtitles!

By permanent, I mean I can't be fired for the next 4 years. Not dying thankfully! :)

Good call! I do a lot of work with cars already - I'd like to do something different.

If you dedicate a good bit of time to it, you could be pretty close to a blackbelt in a few different martial arts in 4 years?

I will be working but it's the type of job I can do pretty easily (think Desmond from Lost).

I just want to take up a new interest - that's all

    I've done that before.

I might take up Yoga or similar I guess.

Try to get to 50,000 posts on boards or learn Esperanto. Whichever you think might be more productive.

Without offending you, that is the single least likely degree I would ever do, or in fact support anyone doing. but its just my opinion.

What job do you have that you CAN'T get fired from, leaves enough time to possibly build a boat(no small task) and pays real currency to pursue such a task?ye must be the luckiest sob in Ireland!

Aside from that,I'd go with post that says write a book about being you,it'd sell truckloads.

The time has come for you to seek the Path. Your soul has set you face to face before the clear light ... and now you are about to experience it in its Reality, wherein all things are like the void and cloudless sky, and the naked, spotless intellect is like a transparent vacuum, without circumference or center... At this moment, know yourself and abide in that state.

Thread title's a bit misleading. You're looking for a hobby. That's hardly an unusual situation

You could build yourself? 3-4 years of good gym work would have you in great shape and in great health?
