Brilliant scenes in otherwise pants movies...

We all know them, those movies that on the whole are awful but have one or two fantastic scenes in them.

My suggestion: Desmond Llewellyn's Q says farewell to Bond in The World is Not Enough. One of the worst Bond movies made yet the hints at Q's paternal influence on the younger Bond always made me think there's a great origins story waiting to be made where the orphaned Bond is groomed for his future role as a double-O.

Domino - a mediocre movie at best. But the scene on the talk show where the woman explains her names for various ethnic groups is hilarious. "Girl, you a ChiNegro." Brilliant.

Actually, there were a couple of scenes with Keira that I also enjoyed.

You really thought Watchmen was *that* bad? I mean, I'm a fan of the graphic novel too and the movie certainly had a few mis-steps but by-and-large I thought it was as good an adaptation as was possible tbh.

I loved the "I Am Godzilla, You are Japan!" scene form things to do in denver - utterly useless movie!

In Chronicles of Riddick, where Riddick corrects some men saying "Tea cup. I'll kill you with my teacup."
    And then he does!

I'll be hung for saying it, but the chariot race is the only good scene in Ben Hur

The Samuel L Jackson scene in Deep blue sea. Those that have seen it now what I'm talking about.

Also the Tim Robbins helmet scene in Mission to Mars.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. was incredibly overblown and intelectually pretentious yet for some reason got very strong reviews from critics

Watchmen was intellectually non-existent and got mediocre reviews from the critics. The Dr. Manhattan flashback scene scored to Philip Glass is pretty good though.

I always loved this "Guards! Knights! Squires! Prepare for Battle!" scene from John Boorman's Excalibur. Incredibly dull film otherwise.

I should not say this out loud but I liked this scene
    Skip the first 10 seconds.

The only reason to watch Jackie Brown is because it's a brilliant film and way more rewatchable than Pulp Fiction.

We're going to have to agree to disagree. Tarantino fanboys can never realise that whilst he arguably makes the best use of soundtracks in the business, his fims are stupidly over-rated.

Duel of the fates in the phantom menace is a good shout.

The first person scene in the otherwise awful Doom was also pretty good.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Swordfish. The opening scene is absolutely brilliant! Unfortunately it is followed by sub b movie crud.

I must admit even though the movie is technically pants, it’s always been one of my guilty pleasures, but this speech deserves to be in a much better film, possibly my favourite from the master of monologues

the opening scene of At World's End, and the bit when they flip the boat over to get out of Davy Jones' locker, the Pirates sequels have some cool setpieces but overall they're pretty crap.

While it's not the worst film ever, this scene (and the preceding bit) from Inglorious Basterds was very impressive.

It's not an awful film but was received that way considering it was judged against it predecessors.

    Some speech though

Almost any scene in "The Room" could be nominated in this thread. It is such a terrible film that almost every scene in hilarious.

Film isn't that terrible maybe but this scene is priceless compared to the rest of the movie:

The car chase scene from the original Gone in 60 Seconds (1974).

Of course this particular scene goes on for about 35minutes so we'll give this film a passing grade.

There are a few good scenes in 'The Keep' - a second-rate horror from the early eighties - but this clip (which should have started just a little earlier to establish that Byrne had just shot a bunch of civillians and ended a little later to show how the 'argument' between the two ended) is the standout moment - preachy, overwrought... but still a great scene:

The scene with the midget clown bombs almost made smokin aces 2 worth watching.

The one-shot chase sequence in TinTin was a rare moment of excitement in an - IMO - damp squib of a movie.
