Late claim?

I left work voluntarily at end of Dec last due to personal reasons.

I've lived off savings since as initially I didn't realise the exemption was only 9 weeks.

Therefore I have missed 8 weeks of JSB that I would have been entitled to.

I checked the http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Pages/jajbfaq.aspx and it does mention late claims saying
A claim may be backdated for a maximum of 6 months where the person can prove to the satisfaction of the Deciding Officer or Appeals Officer that they satisfied the qualifying conditions throughout the period and that there was good cause for delay in making the claim.

Just wondering how would I provide this proof and what might I be asked for? Also what would qualify as a good cause? ie. this was innocence/ignorance of the system on my part.

    Thanks,

    Joe.

Unfortunately ignorance or not knowing is not just cause. If you can show that you were living of your savings and applying for jobs e.g. emails from recruitment agencies and letters of application to employer the deciding officer may entertain you application to have your claim backdated.
