Keyed windshield repair?

Is there a way a keyed windshield and side window can be repaired (polished?) or does it require a full replacement of of the windows?

I was just about starting to accept the key scratches on the car body (and what they might cost to fix) to go out yesterday and find my windshield and driver door window with a bunch of pretty straight, long and deep scratches. I definitely can't get used to it since I bloody see every second I am sitting in the car. :(

Only a pro would be able to say for sure when gauging how deep scratches are.
My friend bought a car where the windscreen had many tiny scratches from someone wiping the inside with their hand (must have had a ring on with a sharp corner/diamond) and that could not be buffed out.
