Hi, My daughter is sitting Leaving Cert and we're going to apply for the grant, and apparently the whole system is changing. I've checked studentfinance but doesn't look like it's live yet. Does anyone know when it will be ? Or where I can get a list of documents that we may need to submit? Thanks !

The grant system doenst go online till mid summer anyway.

In the interim you should collect P21's and other such documentation that clearly state all your income, your spouse/partners income, and your daughter's income. Evidence of any social welfare income and documentation for any factors that might influence the grant should be got too. Also, you may need proof of address (utility bills are the norm for this). Documentaiton requirements are not likely to change compared with previous years. Having P21's and the like ready in advance and stuff like the SW documentation can speed things up, as they sometimes take a while to get sent to you.

Hi, thanks so much for the feedback. Do you happen to know what the relevant year is for all the stuff ? Is it 2011 or 2010? I'm currently on social welfare and my daughter has no income. Do they need details of outgoings as well ? Thanks so much

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 4,754 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tree

up to december 2011. You can offer details of outgoings as an example of money being tight, but they dont ask for it.

Great thanks so much. I'll start pulling together that info so we're sorted. Appreciate the feedback. Thanks.

This year they are changing the grant system so all new applications will be made online at this link - https://www.grantsonline.ie/index_alt.html

It says on the page that it will open up some time in May so perhaps keep an eye on it? The sooner you can get the grant application in the better.

I think the studentfinance.ie site is where you apply
How do I make my grant application?

As soon as the online application system opens for the 2012/13 academic year, you will be able to register online with SUSI and then complete the online application form. The online application facility will be available through www.studentfinance.ie. Remember, it will NOT be necessary to have received an offer of a college place or to be enrolled in college in order to apply online.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

You can see the documentary evidence needed (in 2011) from page 41 of this document

I have been renting since last year but as I am not the sole tenant the bills are in the landlords name and we just split the bill between ourselves. As such I do not have any utilities with my name on them, would a letter from my landlord stating how long I am living there along with my rent receipts [I paid cash on a weekly basis but got a hand written receipt every time] suffice?

Can you register now to fill in this online application? Just looking at studentfinance.ie and it indicates it will be opening up in May, but I don't see any link to registration. Is it still offline?

This happens every year - they say May but it's really June. Given the massive process changes involved in changing to 50ish grant authorities to one it probably won't be May.

You can give them your email at www.facebook.com/susisupport so that they can contact you when it opens

a rental agreement or your receipts should be enough for SUSI. you also have to be over 23 since January of this year.

the online application will be going live on the evening of the 11th June and the student grant scheme for 2012/13 will be published at the same time

to be honest there is no point in gathering together details of outgoings etc as it will not be looked at or taken into account. the grant is totally based on income, outgoings do not come in to it.

    what documentation do you need?

    carnibell wrote: »

you need, birth cert, evidence of residency in the state for 3 out of the last 5 years (junior and leaving cert results should cover this or a letter from your school)
All income details for yourself and your parents if you are dependant, these include for PAYE workers, P21 and P60 or P45 if applicable for 2011. If there is any social welfare you will need a statement for 2011. If there is self employment you will need a Notice of Assessment for 2011 and a Full Set of Accounts for 2011.
    hope this helps.:)

Thanks that helps alot :D how would i get a copy of me JC results ha and one of my parents lost their job at the end of last year will that matter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 PixieDixie

if you don't have acopy of your JC results then just ask your school to give you a letter stating you attended the school from whatever date to whatever date.
as for one of your parents losing their job at end of 2011, yes it will make a difference. you will still have to supply SUSI with all the income details for 2011 and then also your parent's P45 for the job they lost and if they haven't started a new job then a statement from social welfare stating the type of welfare they are on now and how it is. you will then be assessed as a 'change of circumstances' and your parents current income will be annualised and taken instead. there should be a section for this on the application form also.
there is a tutorial for completing the application on the SUSI facebook page, it doesn't apply to everyone but it may help you get your head around it.
    hope this helps :)

Finally got it done and submitted. Not an easy task due to my mother's irrational super sense of privacy :D Blood out of a turnip I tells ya! Now just to find the million and one documents.

Do they give you any info on the documents you need to supply to prove independence?

I'm in a situation where I'm paying rent in cash and don't have a lease in my name so I'm unsure how to prove independence.

Got mine about 5 minutes later, basically just a copy of what you've said attached to an email, doesn't say anything about what documents ya need etc.. Basically just have:

    - your parents income for the year
    - copy of junior cert results
    - copy of birth cert

    ok

it's not that helpful - I would suggest ringing SUSI support

    Where can I contact SUSI?

As part of SUSI’s support to students, there is a SUSI Support desk available in the lead up to and following the launch of the online application system for both email and telephone queries. You can email the SUSI Support Desk at support@susi.cdvec.ie

    Or telephone us at 0761 08 7874

The Support Desk is available Office Hours Monday-Friday until the Launch of the Online Application System in May. From the launch date, the SUSI Support Desk will be available from 9.00am-10.00pm (Monday-Friday) and 9.00am-6.00pm (Saturdays)

Applications should only be made on www.studentfinance.ie - don't panic though the site is probably just really busy - the closing date isn't until 31st August!! so you've plenty of time.

the income limits are as follows
    Less than 4 dependants 100% €41,110, 75% €42,235, 50%€44,720, 25% €47,205, fees only €51,380, half fees only €55,920 and PG Contribution Fee ONly €31,500

    hope this helps.

Yip, when you're in the site, in the address bar of your browser where it says _part6.xsp? , replace the 6 with a 7 and it lets you past....

then instead of hitting 'next', hit the 'enter' key.
