    Hey all,
I have Three mobile broadband at the moment but I am getting UPC Fibre Broadband in the next few days. Prior to this I used imagine broadband, which i used to turn on the wireless button on my IQON laptop a few years ago to get broadband. Anyway the wireless button on my laptop doesn't light up any more, will this turn on when i get the UPC modem or will it connect without using this button.
    Any thoughts?

Assuming the UPC router is wireless enabled, which it probably is, and that your laptop has a functioning wireless card, then you should be able to configure the router and the laptop to connect wirelessly.

If you want a rock solid connection to the internet then you need to use a cable connection.

Wireless is subject to RF interference. As you are having fibre optic broadband installed then you must live in a relatively high density area and as such there will be a host of wireless routers and other wireless devices in the vicinity all interfering with each other thereby degrading performance.

If there is a hardware switch to turn on the wifi on your laptop, and the light does not come on, there may be a problem. Does a wifi connection show up in Network Connections or Device Manager ?

A possible simple workaround would be to get something like this

Definitely a good idea to check for conflicting wifi channels from neighbours with InSSIDer
