Spur gears pinion and wheel material choice

    Hiya,

    I'm doing a college assignment and I'm trying to find some information on the best materials to choose for gear sizes and loading conditions in a single reduction unit, but can't find a guide to help me at all..

    Some of the gear information provided is

    5KW @ 1300RPM input
    SF = 6
    Pinion PCD: 56mm
    Gear Ratio 2:1
    Mod: 4
    Teeth: 14

    The system will be in use for approx 8 hours a day.

    Any suggestions on how to figure out the best materials greatly appreciated!
