Two apps disappeared for no reason, had to manually reinstall

Today I noticed that the icons for Next Bus Dublin and Bloomberg were now generic green android robot icons. Assuming that the apps had been automatically updated so my shortcuts were no longer valid, I deleted the app icons on my screen and went into 'All apps' to drag the icons back to the personal apps screen but they were gone. It looked like the apps were uninstalled except they were listed in Settings/Applications but as something like cmd.Bloomberg so it looked like there was a placeholder for the app data but the app itself was deleted.

Anyone know what was going on here? I reinstalled the two apps and thankfully the data for each app had ben preserved so my favourite bus stops for Next Bus Dublin were ok but I don't understand why the app was removed and had to be manually reinstalled, both are set to allow automatic updates.

It wasnt cmd but com.xxxx.xxxx, thats the name of the package of that app.

Sounds like a corruption, maybe an interrupted update. If it happens again try a reboot first.

I did reboot but the apps were still gone.

It was probably an interrupted update, I noticed it when I looked at the phone in a coffee shop where the 3G coverage isn't great. Surely it shouldn't have deleted the old apps until the updates were fully downoaded?

TBH I dont know how the market process package updates, but it doesnt edit the /data/ folder anyways in 99% of updates(some do due to incompatibility between versions) so even if its frags the app a re-install is easy.

I notice when a device does a large chunk of updates with less than 100MB free to work with it can tend to get stuck, presumably due to lack of space to work with.
