I planted a clematis armandii last summer, unfortunately it hasn't thrived, it's in an area of poor drainage and really it's just not happy. Can I dig it up and replant it this time of year? Should I cut it back first? Basically how do I go about this?

I would cut it back a lot & then replant. Make sure that you shade the roots with a piece of flowerpot, tile, stone etc.

Cutting it back at the time of planting it will promote new shoots to grow, and then it should fly.

Thanks guys, looks like I should be able to save it then, I'll cut it back and replant it somewhere more suitable.
