    Hello

Is it possible to work certain number of hours while claiming the dole? I'm not looking to scam the system, I could do with extra money if possible but don't we all. Would that affect getting the BTEA for college as well?

    Thanks

    well,
off hand I can tell you that if you are working and earning lower than what you would recieve from the social welfare. You can apply to the SW and they will make up the difference.

    eg,

you work 12 hours per week at 8.65. Total of €103.80
but you are entitled to claim 188.00 p.w. from the social. You can claim for that €84.20.

No, the dole works on a per day basis, you may be entitled to a payment for the days you work no hours. For example, you work 2 days per week, you could be entitled to claim for the other 4 days social welfare. It really depends on your personal circumstances, and once you work more than 3 days(I think) you aren't entitled to any JSA/JSB.

As regards BTEA it could well have an effect on you applying for it. You really need to enquire in your local social welfare office.

It actually goes on a 5 day wk now since budget. tbh i was workin as a sub teacher and for the odd few days i got and the amount social took off me it worked out i was better off on the dole. system is a joke iv worked since i was 16 and now im been told im better off not workin ridixulous.
yes it will affect ur bte. but if u wait and get bte u are allowed to work 20 hours without it affecting ur payment each wk. also it goes into ur bank acc an u dont sign on etc.
    hope this helps

General rule:-if you are working you must be able to show a reduction in days at work in order to claim.

If you are out of work and claiming you can take up part time work and get payed for the days you dont work.(max 3 days work in order to claim for the other 3 days).A day's work is classed as any hours worked in the day ie one or twenty hours.
