Extra credit

    2nd year

I've had one of my exams which is based on two term tests and the rest from the exam. I did very poorly in the term tests but did well in the exam. I don't feel confident I have passed overall though given my poor term tests, is it worth emailing the lecturer and asking is there any way to earn some extra credit to get me through? I'm right in thinking lecturers can give extra credit at their discretion?

I've never heard of extra credit existing, but I suppose it may vary by discipline.

Also, lecturers tend to get cynical about borderline students asking for extra credit, I suspect.

Not trying to be harsh, just warning you in advance.

Sometimes (in the maths department) they will take the best of 100% final exam, or some weighted average of final + term exams. Perhaps you could ask/hope for that?
