That site seems to be really badly maintained. There's special offers dating from 2009, it lists upcoming exhibitions from 2010, and the most recent articles on software are at least two years old.

No everything is free from the enterprise boards and its all run internally.. there is also other areas you can take your business dependant on what size scale and type. They will give you all this information but you would specifically have to go and make some meetings. Do the leg work etc

Best of luck with your venture !

I don't disagree, but the information and links in many cases relate to information and sources that are still valid. There is a real need for decent startup advice type sites, but let's be realistic here, free advice requires somebody to do the work for free.... Perhaps in these tough times those of us with more experience should make a greater effort to participate more actively in helping those just starting out. These forums are an ideal platform to at least provide useful pointers to those who seek to learn.

    Cheers

http://istart-ireland.com has a couple packages you can look at to help you get started. I got the premium one, and it even came with a decent website template.

I recall seeing a FAS startup course advertised on the website last year. I wouldn't expect too much but it could be a start if they still run the course.

It would be handy but not all areas have discount stores and I can deliver to your front door. Also most discount stores sell crap merchandise, I would be able to sell Lynx deodorants, Lynx Shower Gel, Nivea Deodorants, Big brand snack food like pringles, Doritos, and etc. Also Home Cleaning Equipment & First Aid and all those type of items at rock bottom prices. The recession is very tough but I'd like to think i'd be doing people a service and ease the pain of it by saving them money :)

Thats all grand and dandy simon but its ireland .. not the uk

Royal mail vs An post - both have their drawbacks but cost is the major factor in what your saying

Lynx deod - Your price €2.00 Lidls Price €2.49
Soap - Your price €1.00 Lidls Price €1.49

Lidls P+P .. you,ll be in there anyway or at least in tesco or other shop supermarket.. Price may vary but your getting the point -- zero

    Your P+P .. €4-6 excluding registered signing..

The idea is solid, i have no bones in saying that its just your price point on miniscule items will never cover the costs, the reason discount stores survive in shoppping centres is that u go in with 10 odd quid and buy all sorts of crap.. Sweets, soaps, deod etc but your idea with p+p will cripple you..
Hiring minions to pack these items will be another added cost you dont normally have in stores, you have 1 on the till and 1 stacking shelves.. You will have more added costing sorting orders which must be added in.

Insert different item into your business model with a higher price point or profit margin and you can make a go of it.

Well I only plan on starting out small! plus when im starting off ill only be looking on delivering to the Republic. So hiring people to work for me wont necessarily be needed at that moment. but the P+P isn't too bad! if the customer is paying for the Delivery and even at that it wont cost me too much! My profit wont be relying on Postage costs, I just thinks its an innovative idea in a recession since anyone can buy online anyway lol

Not bad, only there'd have to be enough of a saving for people to go to your site and buy, as opposed to just dropping by Aldi, Lidl etc. People tend to pick that stuff up as part of their regular shop, or when in and out of shops/supermarkets, etc.

Plus to build your site will cost thousands, and then you have to spend time and money marketing it as well.
