Cassette question

I just got a set of wheels (discussed on a previous thread). I have to put a replacement cassette on the new wheel and I'm wondering if this has to be the same as the one on my old set of wheels (8-Speed 12-28T cassette). For example, would a 28/11 work with my existing setup? I currently have a triple and plan to change to a compact system once I do the Wicklow 200 :D.

    That would be fine, yes.

Thanks, let the Shimano 105 conversion commence!

Provided the 11-28 is still a 8 speed cassette. 105 is now 10 speed.
