Blu Ray for file backups

Anybody out there using blu ray to archive their audio projects?

I stopped backing up to DVD since most album projects started to hit the 50gb mark & I generally keep lots of hard drives now.

I'd have more faith in a disc than a hard drive though for long term storage.

Anyone with any thoughts or experience? Can't seem to find much info online.

We were using blu ray to back up post production t.v. stuff.
Using a Lacie burner and Toast. I found they burned and verified fine, but a large percentage failed to mount again after time or we couldn't copy stuff back.
Just use Firewire drives now. One main one and a clone as a backup of the backup.

Gobbler not an option for me. Hardly have phone signal where I am.

Thanks for the feedback Goatboy, was looking at lacie drive & toast. Looks like i'll have to reconsider.

It was a while back though. It was very new as a format at the time. Could have been a bad batch of discs, could have been a lot of things. I'm sure you'll find someone else who'll swear it's rock solid. We made a lot of expensive coasters though...

LaCie gave been rubbish for years, and Toast has gone downhill as well. :(
