i was just wondering how many of you shoot foxes during the summer, or do you leave them till september???? i do most of my hunting with dogs so we stop in march and start back up in september to give them time to breed, (except call outs if they're killing stock) i'm not having a go at anyone, just wondering as it seems to be mostly shooting lads on here (i know its the shooting section)

+1. Nothing better than lying down waiting for one just after the silage :D

I gave it up a few years ago, but after this Spring I'm going to be looking for them again in Summer.

The silage time is a great time to get them in daylight, its also a bad time for them taking my ducks and chickens so yes I'd shoot them!

Personally I wouldnt unless I get a call and they are causing problems! If you live in an area where there's a lot of lads hunting they take enough of a hammering during the winter months do id give them a chance to breed in peace! Plus sum of the dogey men get narky over shooting "their" foxes so its not worth the hassle  No dig meant @ the OP by the way!

I love calling them in on nice sunny long evenings around July and August.

Obviousy a call out is a call out and that has to be dealt with.

I can't see the point in shooting/killing animals with cubs and shooting/killing cubs. What purpose does that serve?

Control rather than extermination should be the way.

They weren't exterminated during the tail for money in the 70s and 80s so I doubt this will happen

It depends on the area they are around, if they are on or near a sheep farmers land then them cubs will be 3 or 4 grown foxes soon and will be taking lambs next year.

No point waiting till they kill lambs before doing something about it.

plenty of sheep around here so yes we shoot foxs all year round, also helps get a few more deer permissions in return,
we have lost a few lambs ourselfs to foxs esp around now

Im sure he see's no dig their after all its the doggy men who count for most the foxes killed, They surely put a hell of alot more into it physically compare digging seven foot to shining a lamp and pulling the trigger. Oh oooooooooooo.......:D

    GOOD TRY :D
i do plenty of lamping aswel, just with dogs rather than my guns, for me its more about seeing the dogs working than about taking big numbers (which is lucky cos my dogs a sh!te) i started this thread to see what most boys into shootings attitude towards foxes was, i got the replys i was expecting,,,, as for gun men V dog men i've no problem with shooting but some boys go abit over board, i remember a couple of years ago two boys 42 foxes in one night, seemed a bit of a waste, if i got that in a season i'd be delighted

    PS guns=bad dogs=good :p

I personally wouldn't be bothered lamping foxs till August/September to give them a chance. All you will get is cubs mainly at this time of year and i don't see the fun in shooting cubs but thats my opinion
