Car boot won't open

Hi, I have a vw beetle and I can't get the boot open. I'm hoping someone here may be able to tell me what could be causing this issue.

The boot won't open with either the key fob or the button inside the car. For those who aren't familiar with the beetle you can't insert a key to open the boot you need to press the button on the key fob. The indicators do flash when I click the key fob but the boot doesn't pop open. To make it worse I've managed to break the button inside the car out of frustration  Sometimes it will open, maybe 1 in 50 tries.

Anyone know what could be causing this? I'm hoping its doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the electrics but if it is will this be a big job to fix? If I had to replace a fuse or get the motor fixed anyone know what this would set me back? I'm broke at the moment so I'm just wondering if I afford to get it fixed.

Anyone think it would be worth replacing the battery in the key fob? Although I've had no issues opening the car doors with it....

I'd really appreciate any help with this. Thanks

If you can get the boot open from the inside, you could take off the panel and check that the cable has'nt come off the motor.

Next time you do get it open, check the physical locking mechanism to make sure there isn't a leaf or something sitting on the metal catch or the sensor.

Most likely the boot lock solenoid has failed.

When you rotate the VW badge to reveal the pull handle on the boot, is there no key lock to manually open it behind it?

Maybe the face lifted beetles(if that's what you have?) are solenoid only though.
