    Hi,

I got a letter stating that my JSB would be due to end soon and to apply for JSA. As well as the enclosed forms,I was asked for my parents current payslip and mortgage receipt - am wondering why I am being asked for this as I am over the age of 25 if the means test is on my income? And also,if the claim is assessed will I still receive the same amount as I did when on JSB when submitting part-time slips for the days I work?

    Thanks.

If you are>25 yrs you do not have to provide current payslips from parents. Are you currently on casual jsb? and transferring to casual jsa? If you are working casually then your means from employment will be assessed. Depending on your earnings you may not receive the same amount as when you were on jsb. You do not state what your personal rate was on jsb. When moving to casual your personal rate will be €188. It is impossible to say what you will receive on jsa as you do not state what your gross income is or how many days pw your work or what days you work.

I am living at home - as per above,do I have to provide my parents mortgage receipt?
I am transferring from casual JSB to casual JSA yes, sorry I didn't make that clear...my rate on casual JSB was €188.I only work when required so it could be anything from €100 to €300 per month gross...

You dont have to provide parents mortgage statement. Its impossible for me to calculate means as your earnings fluctuate so much and you cannot give the number of days pw you work because of the unpredictability of the job you are in.

Thanks for your help - the maximum amount of days I'd work in a month would be three, essentially three out of four fridays a month with a maximum earning of €300 gross but as stated previously this could be down to one or two depending on whether I'm needed or not..

IMHO I would think there will be little or no means calculated on your jsa claim but it is up to the deciding officer doing your means for jsa to calculate means. TBH you really shouldnt be on casual claim because of the little amount you work you should be signing every month and declaring days worked.

Thanks - called into my local office today and cleared it up so was given a form for my employer.I'm unsure as to its usefulness as I invoice the place I work but having explained my circumstances/type of work/frequency of work to a social welfare officer in an interview when I made my claim for JSB was advised I was not a sole trader or had to register as a business...any advice on this?

It sounds to me that you are self employed if you are invoicing the place you work. Are you on their payroll or do they pay you as a result of the invoice? Does the company pay prsi contributions for you?

As above,I have explained the circumstances of my employment to a Social Welfare Inspector when I was applying for JSB originally (the meeting having been set up because I was told I was self-employed) and was told that I was neither self-employed or in need of setting up as self-employed because I only worked in one place and for a limited amount of time. I get paid when handing in invoices and am unsure as to whether or not the company pays my PRSI.
