hi guys, just keeping some of ye abreast of what trollsocAnti-soc are up these days. Btw their facebook page is down to 56 members including me, I wonder if it's just people deleting their facebooks for exams or whether the bad press they got here caused a lot of guys to disassociate.

Education is more than a luxury; it is a responsibility that society owes to itself. Robin Cook

One of the reasons why we formed Antisoc was to highlight some of the problems within UL from a student perspective, demand better representation from the SU on these topics and seek resolution. The latest problem that has come to our attention is the accessibility and delivery of education to students' with disabilities.

The latest outburst from our sabbatical team highlights the fact further progress needs to be made on this issue. The offending comment is uploaded in the photos section and is available on www.ulsuelect.com. It has since been deleted on their facebook page. My current opinion is the statement was a 'slip of the tongue' and was open to misinterpretation but some of you have read a more sinister meaning into it.

The UN, HSE and UL itself are committed (on paper) to providing a fair and equitable education to everyone regardless of demographics. The SU has an 'equality officer' and 'equality policy' but the role is just token and the document's only present purpose is to prevent blood-transfusions being endorsed by the SU.

We are asking you to come forward with stories, insights, opinions and facts on the quality of accessibility to education in UL. If you know anyone with special requirements e.g. someone in a wheel chair, dyslexia or a person with a visual impairment, please put them in touch with us.

We performed a very quick appraisal of the buildings of UL with an OT (occupational therapist) friend today and we found that the SU, the foundation building and a host of other buildings are VERY inaccessible from a wheel chair user point of view.

The Students' Union building, bafflingly, has a automatically opening front door which is immediately followed by an inaccessible push door. Unless we overlooked something we honestly can't explain this.

The foundation building is also completely inaccessible for someone in a wheelchair. The only way to access it without getting someone to hold the door open for you is to enter the main building via the main entrance, hope the wheelchair button is working, take the lift to floor 2, go across the 'walkway', down the lift again to ground floor, and you can then deal with the problem of getting into the lecture.

Please share with us what you can find, we will then deliver a message to the UL equality officer, the SU president and welfare officer and the UL disability officer

    Regards,

    Antisoc

This Anti soc thing is a joke

It's almost as hilarious as some of the crap sabbats have been spewing on facebook

If anything it just gives sabbats an excuse for this unprofessional behavior

Last year's CSO Viv Grisewood also did the same during his Equality Week so they are already aware of it.

Being aware of it, and acting on it are two different matters. I was walking around with a blind friend the other day, and there were quite a few problems. Not meaning to Union bash; I think they need to sort out the internal financial and structural problems before they can start making effective changes to college life, but there should be an official forum where students can bring issues like this.

I don't like the way Anti Soc has acted on boards. But if they bring constructive criticism then I have no major problem with them.

And I'm sure someone did it before she did it. So what you're saying, they know what the issues are, but make no attempt at rectifying them. UL/ULSU really are a shambles.

I think antisoc should send chuck feeney a strongly worded email telling him he should look at getting some of his money bakc
