I've seen on Citizen's Advice that in some cases, you can receive BTEA when you are under 21. I just turned 20 butt it'd be great to not waste another year and get back into college in August.

Do I need to have a college arranged before I apply? I won't be able to go to college without BTEA so registering for a college and going far away to get to it would be a big waste of time if it turns out that I'm not eligable. How does it work? Can I apply before finalizing a course?

Yes - talk to your social welfare office about it

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

you have to be on the dole for 6months, and you have to be offered a place before you can get the btea, the dole wont give you a grant anymore you have to go through your local vec(if your doing a 2-3 year course) but go into the dole and talk to them asap
