    Hi.
im thinking of buying a 2006/2006 audi 138bhp and iv been told to look for the BRE 2.0 engine over the BLB version. I have found one and im wondering are these audis really supposed to be more reliable to the other engined 2.0 audi's and should i snap one up over the other versions as i dont want a 1.9 115 break audi?
    Thank u

The BLB came out before the BRE. The BLB's have a chain driven oil pump balance shaft and the tensioner is known to break. If it does, you'll have to be quick to stop the engine or you'll lose a turbo and more.

The BRE had a changed design that replaced the chain with a HEX shaft. This has also been known to wear to a round and will result in the same oil starvation problem.

There has been a third modification to the design but that's ll that I know about. The 2.0tdi is smoother than the 1.9 but nowhere near as reliable.

    Hope this helps!

BTW, I have the BLB and have had no issues whatsoever. Love my car

I have a BLB too. Had it for 3 months now, 113k miles on the clock and no sign of the balance shaft failure yet thankfully! Just hope its one of the good ones cause i love it :p
