Hi all, I realise Canyon86 asked the question recently whether moving overseas and coming back when (eventually) AGS recruit for full time officers again would cause any problems in relation to residency rules and the vetting procedure.

I contacted AGS today, and I received a positive reply, here it is below:

Thank you for your interest in An Garda Síochána.

All Irish citizens are eligible to apply for An Garda Síochána regardless of where they currently reside.

I trust this information is of some assistance to you.

Hope this helps anyone who may be concerned about living abroad while things, eh em, "pick up" over here!

    Djor88!

The problem may arise with getting vetting though. AFAIK you must get vetting from any countries you've resided in for more than 6 months, I'm not 100% sure on that though.

Correct , therein lies the potential issue - one thing getting vetting from a first world country but countries in Africa / Asia could prove to be a nightmare getting vetting from.
Expect serious delays which could cost you a place.
