The RSA are set to introduce the new polycarbonate card driving licences on the 19th of January 2013. They will hold more information and fit neater in a wallet etc.
But the RSA has said, "It will be a cost neutral process, with a new pricing structure which reflect the true cost of provinding the new licensing system."
This would suggest a significant increase in the price will occur.

Hardly surprising, I wonder if they will make it possible for current license holders to upgrade to the new style.

The are accepting that the phasing in process will take ten years. They may do an exchange, possibly at a cost. Although maybe, one could loose their licence?
If I were a 17 year old, starting out, I would get a move on getting through the process. I would rather pay less for the current trifold licence then fork out more just to get the card.

I heard from my last ADI (Motorcycle) that an exchange option will be available for existing licence holders for a minimal fee. I for one will be delighted to get the new card.

The sooner it's a card size the better. I would probably pay the fee to swap it to a new type. The trifold it's practical when drivin different vehicles on a daily basis

Also for anyone who holds either a bus or truck licence their licence will only be valid for five years,So will the licences for professional drivers be half the price of either a car/motorbike licence.

I doubt they will do that. You are trapped into having to pay to renew that licence for your jobs.

I wonder will they be made here in Ireland or farmed out to a company in the UK as what is done regarding the drivers digi card at present.;)
