After having a national day of volunteering, it looks like Volunteer Ireland are pushing it out to encompass a full week to give people a greater chance to volunteer and fit more projects into it. National Volunteering week
If you want to look for volunteer positions during that week this link should have them advertised.
National Volunteering Week is the one week of the year when we encourage everyone in Ireland to give volunteering a try, so that everyone can learn that – even if it’s only for a minute, an hour, or a day – volunteering can make a big difference and be a lot of fun!
This is a good starting point for someone thinking of volunteering for a longer time period in the future.

Voluntary Arts Week is also on from the 12th May to the 20th.

The week has kicked off. They are looking for the next census to have volunteer question on it after the last one left out what was there in 2006 or at least some sort of national survey. There is also a message from the Taoiseach reported on the link. Volunteer.ie
In a survey of more than 500 active volunteers, 43% said that ‘personal belief for a cause’ was the most important part of their decision to volunteer, followed by the ‘organisation’s values and principles’ (24%) and the ‘experience people will gain’ (21%).
76% of participants said that volunteering was either ‘essential’ or ‘very important’ for the future of their community. The survey also found that being involved in volunteering brings positive benefits to people themselves with 98% responding that ‘volunteering makes them a happier person’.
