Just heard this on the news, thought it may be of interest here.

Is your income enough to allow a minimum essential standard of living?

The Minimum Income Standard shows the income people need in order to afford the goods and services that members of the public have agreed are a minimum essential for everyone in Ireland to have. This is a minimum standard that people agree no one should live below.

This calculator allows you to see the minimum for your household type.
By answering a few simple questions the minimum income standard for your household will be calculated. You can then make certain adjustments for your situation.

No option for 2 adults living together without kids so I didn't try it out.

2 Adults without kids here too. It gives about 35k a year needed for 1 person. I earn about 10k less than that and still can live decently (I don't go to pubs though).

I think you have too little choices to put n for your circumstances.

The figures they use are completely off - We dont need €38K / yr to live on for our family size (although it would be nice!!)

My insurance, transport and food costs are no where near what we spend (or need to spend).

Wonder how they arrived at the figures.

The whole thing is a little peculiar. There's an area where you can adjust spending on childcare, electricity and home heating, but there's no indication if that's per day/week/month.

It also gives a suggested minimum income figure, then says eligible for a GP Visit card, but also contains a section about GP costs.

Then it suddenly cut the connection, and won't reopen the page.
    Edit:
It's also based on "what members of the public have agreed is the minimum". Which is also odd. How many members of the public? 10 people in Dundrum, or 20 people in O'Connell St, or 30 people in Borrisoleigh?

income figures for 2 adults on jsa are wrong, its not 188 each per week making a weekly income of 376 it is in fact both adults get 156.40 per week making a weekly income of 312.80 for a cohabiting couple which is 63.20 short of what the calculations say they are getting if they where to claim as two single individuals

Now that I can read the FAQ, it's based on nationwide focus groups (up to 30 people per household type).

The average 15 year old doing a transition year project would have come up with something
more correct and more researched than this travesty. Waste of money and a huge shame that MABS, which has been at the coalface of people's difficulties and doing great work, put its name to this rubbish.
