Printer Problem!

I've got a relatively old HP DeskJet 4260 Printer.

It's just stopped printing in colour!
So I bought a new colour cartridge, still B&W.
I bought a set of refill inks for existing cartridges. Still B&W.

    Can anyone suggest a fix?

I know printers cost nowt these days, and it would be the easiest thing to just go and get a new one, but I've got myself a little stockpile of Cartridges both Black and Colour and am loth to just go out, get a new printer and bin these cartridges.

Other way to go, does a newer, different printer take the HP 350 & 351 cartridges?

Sounds like a driver issue if its printing in pure black and white, if it was colour run out or blocked then it just wouldnt print anythign where the colour should be.

First thing to check is the printing preferences, can you let us know what OS you are using?

    Windows XP.
I've just found the original disc too. The driver'll be on that won't it?

However, carry on, you know more than me!

Thanks for getting back to me.

Well first just check the printer preferences so go to:

    Start,
    Control Panel,
    Printers,
Select your printer and right click and select printing preferences.
Go through all the tabs and make sure black and white isnt selected?
If it is change it to colour and click apply or ok etc..

    Try now?

    You're some boy!

    That fixed it.

Never thought of looking in there because I'd never been in there to change it in the first place!

In fact, I've never been ANYWHERE to change it!

How/what would have caused it to do that?

    Thanks for your help.
You get a big gold star for that!
    Delighted.

    Such a simple thing!

Glad its got you sorted :)

Well you can access printing preferences from any print screen but if you never did it then is it possible someone else wanted to print something in black and white as a one off and forgot to change it back?

Don't think so. My wife rarely prints stuff out in my office and if she does, it's as is which is set for colour.

Though actually..... Now I think about something..
(... a dim red lights comes on...)

    I'll ask the girl..

    Thanks again.
