    Hey guys,
Just wondering can anyone give me any info, i have a 02 mini cooper and on saturday i noticed my key fob was not working so i had to open the doors using the key i thought prob just the battery that had died in the remote of the key.
However, later as i was driving off the hazard lights came on and the windows starting going up and down. For most of the day the lights continued to flash.
Brought to local bmw dealer today and was told the body control module is corroded, water has been getting in because when they lifted the mats there was a pool of water. Now they need to find where the water is actually coming in and have told me that will cost 100 euro with the new part the body control module costing me a whopping 700 euro. I am wondering has anyone had a simular problem and is this price about the norm??

Price is about right, and it's happened to a fair few early models where windscreens were replaced and not sealed properly.

Yeah it's actually common but not at the windscreen we had Afew in during the bad weather and that and it's actually leaking at the plastic chrome trim that comes off the roof and goes down the front puller. Second thing il say to you is we stripped the car out dried all the interior opened up the module and cleaned up inside it our selfs a lot lot cheaper for the customer.

I've been at the receiving end of a few dozen of these. Drying them out is not a good idea. Once the board has corroded enough to cause malfunctions, it will always have the potential to corrode more even after a run through an electronics cleaning bath.

    Only cure's a new one!

I agree totally with you, but sometimes people's circumstances some times doesn't allow that. And by drying it out affords the customer with time to save for another . As I have advised customers on several ocassions there would be any warranty on that job but it would get them back on the road for a fraction of the price. I also said cleaning it up if it wasn't as far coroded. But yes by all means new is ur only 100% garentee. But il stand by where I've said the leak as as we have had several of them in our place and it all stems from there.

In fact we c to many minis in our place lol
But hey it's a good sign when it's busy isn't it.....

well as it turns out it will now cost me a 1000 euro to fix, the driver side needs a new door seal which is where the leak was  Also the they need to replace wire connectors as they were so badly corroded. That is what i was told anyway.
