I have windows 7 and for ease of use iTunes is great but I do not like the way it uses twice the memory, for example it doubles all the songs.

Im just wondering if there is a sofware out there that is A. Good and B. Does not double the songs, thus saving me space.

I have 30gb of music and its 60gb of space. Not good.

Mediamonkey would be my recommendation. Nicer to use than iTunes and doesnt cripple your computer!

i've always been a big fan of winamp for playing music and media player classic for video.

I'm a fan of Amarok myself. Never used the windows version but I don't believe it's much different from the Linux one.

Winamp, 1000 times better than iTunes, Media Monkey if you want an iTunes type "management" application, although winamp can do most of what Itunes can

Are you sure you haven't got your music saved in two places?

Im not really sure what you mean by double up; Mediamonkey certainly doesnt create two copies of every song if thats what you mean?

I also had that problem with iTunes putting multiple copies on my ipod (sometimes 5 or 6 times!) even without auto sync on (I manually managed music with it), the most frustrating piece of software I ever used!

I use media player classic That comes bundled with k-lite for most video audio playback I also have iTunes as my iPhone needs it..

Also are you sure you don't have iTunes organising the music folder that could be why you have double copies or maybe a setting that creates say an acc version of an mp3 song everytime you import it..I'd say not to let iTunes organise your music.

I havn't used it in ages so can't say exactly what settings are in it

I used Winamp for years until I switched over to Foobar in the last while. While it's a little trickier to get set up the way you want, the end result is fantastic. Light weight, completely skinnable and with fantastic sound reproduction via the bitperfect WSAPI plugin. Couldn't see myself going back to Winamp and its bloat ever. :)

what I mean by double up is:

I have 30gb music, I use itunes to play that music, so Itunes copies all the files and so in my itunes folder I have another 30gb and thus my music doubles to 60gb. Do you get me?

you can turn off that...press (ctrl and ,) at the same time go to advanced and uncheck the top 2 boxes..then itunes will just link to the original file

    Hi,

Besides iTunes, do any of the other apps. mentioned in this thread, allow transfer of music from PC to iPhone?

Coz I really really really really hate iTunes - imo, the worlds worst application (so not user friendly) - and why do Americans love it so much, I just dont get it.

    Regards

    Iba

Once I do that, do I then re-direct the itunes media file location and delete the media folder?

If you are planning on using the original files then you can delete the iTunes folder and add all the files to iTunes library again or re-direct them.. But make sure you have all your music saved elsewhere before you delete anything..
