hi my friend bought a car last Monday (27-04-12) and i done a deal with him yesterday to buy it off him if he taxes it for 3 months before Friday, so he is waiting for the log book to come but can he go to the tax office and pay the tax while he is waiting for the log book of must he have the log book first? i checked the motortax.ie site and they have not done anything with that log book yet.

Without the VLC/book he doesn't own it per se so can't tax it.

You can ring Shannon and check if it's been processed.

so once the website is updated saying that they have changed the logbook he can go in and tax it even before he gets the book in the post?

Did the seller actually send it off to Shannon? Thats the first place I would start.

i rang the motor tax office in cork today and they said that he can tax it once it is updated on the system to say he is the owner so he doesnt need to wait for the log book to come to him. but they said it needs to be insured to be taxed, but could he put the insurance details of his other car on the form to tax this car as i wont be transferring my insurance to it till it is taxed or do they check the insurance details on a computer. he will be taxing it in the office in person if that matters.

Lash in whatever policy suits him if he's so inclined, they won't be checking it.
