UPC Phone Beeping before dialling

I have been with UPC for TV/phone/broadband for about 6 months now. Recently when making calls there is a quick burst of about 8 beeps before calls are dialled. This was not happening at the beginning but happens before every outbound call now.

I am using the standard Gigaset DECT handset that UPC provide. Has anyone else come across this?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

Probably your voicemail. Check and delete all your messages and reboot your UPC phone adapter, it should be gone then.

It's like the dial tone being pulsed on and off ?

If so, that's the message waiting indicator.

Eircom uses a different one, the dial tone pulses high and low pitched.

Most DECT phones will also pick up occasionally to check for MWI and display an envelope / light if there's a message waiting.

It's just a way of letting you know you've messages :)

Dial 171 and check your messages! Once the message is listened to or deleted, the dial tone will go back to normal.

Occasionally, MWI services can get stuck when the network has somehow missed a cancel message from the voicemail server. This sometimes happens on office systems, VoIP SIP systems, on eircom landlines, on mobiles (where an envelope is displayed e.g. on Meteor mobile, not every network has it).

    It's usually pretty reliable though!

If it won't clear just ring UPC and they'll reset the MWI for you.
