Was just reading through your threads online which i have found very
helpful. I was wondering could you help me with something. I was made
redundant in july 2011. I was on maternity leave at the time so wasn't
at work so have had to do alot of things by myself. I asked a family
friend who is an accountant (to which i am now sorry) to help with
package choice and claiming my tax back. I received a cheque today for
€1800 repayment of tax PAYE balancing statement (P21) enclosed. I was
informed by work colleagues that they got almost all of the tax back
they paid on their package. I paid over €7000 in tax on my package
also i was on maternity leave beforehand so should have tax credits
built up. Am I also entitled to top slicing i really really do not
understand tax and what i am entitled to claim back for i trusted
family friend but i honestly do not know what he has applied for me. I
would ring the revenue but i dont even know what to ask for totally
confused. Hoping you can shed some light on what i should do.

I was made redundant on June '11. I sent revenue an email regarding TSR which they calculated. 10 days ago they replied saying it had been calculated but I haven't heard anything since.

I would suggest just emailing revenue stating you want to claim TSR.

Does anyone know how long it takes? I was expecting to have my refund at this stage. 10 days later and nothing.

Thanks a million for that have you claimed for anything else other than the TSR it is really confusing you should really get a package explaining all this when you are made redundant hard enough to loose your jobbut you need a degree in taxation to understand it all. What email address did you use. thanks again

Yeah I got something back in Jan but think it was just PAYE related. I requested a P21 usin the online system.

The email address I used is 'DublinSouthCityPAYE@revenue.ie'.
Presume this will change depending on your location. Better to check revenue.ie if unsure.

I agree, tax is a very complicated topic.

There isn't really enough details to address the issue you've raised.

Really this advice would be outside the scope of the forum.

However, if you post up details of roughly what your redundancy package was made up, your annual salary and how long you worked with the company I'll try and give you a general indication of whether the refund amount makes sense to me.

Also were you paid while on maternity leave? The OP tends to suggest that your weren't.
