Recording "Other Channels" on Sky+..?

I was wondering if it is possible to record ITV3 etc (It's on the "Other Channels" option) on a Sky+ box - It's not HD just the ordinary box?

And if possible how?..It says to contact your broadcaster when you press the record button but I though I'd try here first! :)

Thanks for your help, haven't a clue about Sky as I'm a newbie to it!
Sorry if I'm repeating a thread but didn't see a similar one.

You can only record whats on the EPG and if they are premium channels (movies, sports etc) you have to pay extra. Anything in "other channels" cant be recorded in their present format.

However if you get a UK viewing card you can then get all the ITV channels on the EPG and record away - see here

    Thanks Muffler for that..

I have BBC1HD for some reason and used to have Channel 5 but it's gone now (not that pushed tbh) and all the "other channels".

Ah well, not to worry!...Thanks so much though.:)

You don't need to win the lottery to get a UK card - well worth looking into if yo want to record any of the "other" channels.

Sorry I wasn't talking about HD, I was answering your original question - being able to record other channels.

Oh I see the HD is more important to you than being able to record ?

If you want to record an occasional programme, using std sky plus box, from ITV3 or other similar channels that are not on the Irish EPG do as follows.

    1. Go to sky news
    2. Press Red button.
    3. when interactive or text loads on screen, pull the card from its slot.
    4. Press back up button and searching for listings will come on screen.
    5. UK EPG will load.
    6. When programme you want to watch starts, ie it says Now on the banner, slip in the viewing card again and quickly press the record button. That programme will now tape.
    7. Then, put the box in standby and wait for 2-3 minutes before powering the box on again.
    8. Box will now have irish epg again ,but if u check the planner the ITV 3 programme will be taping.

Its not a brilliant option but is handy sometimes when you are present to do it.

You can also manually record from 'other channels' to an external device e.g. video/DVD recorder by selecting/tuning the 'other channel' in your sky box and connecting your Sky box via scart to external recording device and simply recording the programme. Only disdavantage of this is that you have to keep Sky box tuned to this particular channel for duration of recording.

Where do you insert the tape cassette?

Surely this can be done with a Freesat PVR without all the hassle?
