    hi all

just wondering how far a car tyre is allowed wear before it fails the NCT, is it 1.6mm above the wear indicator that the thread thickness must be before its considered worn ?

thus from new a car tyre would have 5-6mm tyre thread for wearing from new to changing time?

ordinary car tyres I am talking about same as under a golf focus corolla

It must have 1.6mm of thread. Nothing to do with being above the wear indicator. You can measure from the bottom of the threads.

The wear mark is at 1.6mm so if the tyre are worn to that they need changhing.

They should really be changed once they go below 3mm though.
