Computer applications vs computer science

Doing the leaving this year, and I'm thinking of putting computer applications down. My question is: is there a difference between this course and a regular computer science course anywhere else? The modules seem roughly similar, so why is it a different name?

The location of DCU is a disadvantage for me, but I'm hoping the quality of the course would make up for it. Can anyone offer their opinion on that too?

    Cheers

Theoretical CS is supposed to build up a more scientific knowledge of computer programming where CA is supposed to build a more "practical" knowledge of programming to help you in the business the world.

The reality is that Trinity's and DCU's computer course feature pretty much identical modules throughout.

The biggest pull you'll get for coming to doing CA in DCU is our alumni, DCU has a big reputation in the IT industry much more so then Trinity does at the moment.

I'm not sure about the actual degrees but my friend does CS in Trinity and she has had a job lined up with google since before Christmas for when she graduates. The CS department in Trinity are also quite friendly although the modules they take are supposed to be very mathsy.
