    Hi all,

I recently broke my phone and am looking for my first bill pay smart phone. The main one so far that has caught my eye is the HTC Sensation XL.

    https://store.meteor.ie/phones/bill-...C-Sensation-XL

I'm looking at option 3. €50e phone €40 euro a month contract. 400minutes and 400texts with free calls and text for meteor. The issue I'm having is that because I'm going from PAYG to Bill Pay the price of the phone goes up to €100.

I'm just wondering what people think? Is it a good phone/deal? Any other good recommendations ?

    Regards,

    Shano

Ive a Galaxy Nexus myself but my friend recently picked this up from Meteor and he loves it, ive used it myself and its a great phone the screen is super clear and it doesnt miss a heartbeat with any power hungry apps or games, plus the Beats are a nice bonus. All in all its a great phone, now i dont know your budget but personally speaking id go for the Nexus or HTC One X, but if your heart is set on the XL fear not its a good phone

OP, all the phone companies incentivise people to move from other networks, sometimes more than they look after their existing customers, no need to be put off by that, they all do it..

As for the phone, you won't find too many people round here with Sensation XL's. It was an odd phone to launch, really and it never really caught on IMO. For a start, it was launched 6 months after the original Sensation which had a dual core processor. The Sensation XL, however had a single core processor, which would have put plenty people off. As well, it has massive 4.7" screen, yet at the same time, its fairly low resolution.

All in all, it was off the pace when it was launched and it certainly is now trust me. sure HTC have a quad core phone at this stage, which puts into perspective

My advice, if you want to stick with spending similar money on the same contract, get the Samsung Galaxy S2 or the HTC One S. The S2 has been around about a year now, but is still an amazing phone, has been the benchmark android phone until recently, and there are plenty round these parts with it. The One S is only just out, and by all accounts is a great phone. If you were willing to spend about a hundred more, you could get yourself the HTC One X, the first quad core phone to market and the android phone of the moment, so it looks. The Galaxy S3 is also on the way however. This is probably the most anticipted phone that isnt an iphone in years and years. Hugely anticipated and would probably be available for similar money in a month or so

Reading the specs of the XL on paper i allways thought the same about it, but using it in person i thought it was a very fluid phone and i thought the screen was great and thats coming from using my Nexus, like i said personally id have the Nexus or One X over it but not everyone wants a flag ship phone, the XL is a great Android device from what ive seen so far.

I have one, and it's OK. But if you get a Sensation XL you'll have to wait for an ICS upgrade, and afaik there aren't any plans to bring Sense 4 to it - the XL and older devices will be stuck with Sense 3.6.

It confuses me that a phone marketed as a multimedia device doesn't have a microSD card slot. Saying that, do any of the new flagship releases have microSD card slots?

If you want to play around with custom ROMs then a flagship phone would be better.

Yeah, its kinda for that reason i don't know why you'd go for a 2011 HTC like the Sensation XL, when you could go for a 2012 model like the One S. That phone would be far more powerful on paper, ship with ICS and Sense 4.0, and have a higher resolution screen. It doesnt have a microSD slot either though, like you say. As for all the top end phones not having it, that has yet to be seen with the Galaxy S3 launching this week. I still think there are plenty of users, myself included who are unwilling to give up local storage for cloud storage..
