iPod Automatically Disconnects Itself

Today, I had to restore my iPod to it's factory settings. I connected it to my laptop and it syncs but then immediately disconnects itself. I try to click on "Enable Disk Use" but the iPod disconnects before I can do so. Can you think of what could be causing this or how I can fix it?
