Mother had a 00 red 1.0 one, I though it was great on fuel around 50mpg give or take, nippy enough too for a 1.0 and for a small car it was comfortable.

I would get a diesel for that milage though.

Road tax is a killer so don't blame you for going small engine, sickening to pay 600 for a economic 1.9 diesel.

    I would get a 1.3 diesel Opel/Fiat or a 1.4 diesel Toyota/Skoda Fabia/Polo etc

If you could get one cheap enough.

MPG aside, do you really want to drive 500 miles a week in a Yaris?
Is it motorway driving? Yaris's dont do great mpg over 60mph.

I had a small car before ( Fabia vrs ) and found it very comfortable on long journeys, you don't need an A8 for motorway driving.

Seats are fairly comfortable in the Yaris and it's roomy enough too in the front.

Doing 500 miles a week in a supermini is going to be painful especially in a 1.0 litre petrol one.

My ladyfriend has one, I thought the engine was going to cry enough at motorway speeds. It's very easily blown about at those speeds too, I would recommend something heavier than that at the very least!

Mpg you are looking at approx 53 onwards from what I've seen (not impressed one bit I expect 60 at least). Best to try get a small diesel car as suggested above; something with a 1.3/1.4 diesel engine etc. That will give you decent economy with not much extra tax and cheaper fuel.

My wife has a 1.0 Yaris and I have a 1.3 Corolla and Im getting better mpg out of the Corolla.
The Yaris gets thirsty on motorways..
