I'm sure there must be a thread already on this, but couldn't find it.

I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to the Pro V1's. I'd be looking for similar performance in the 20-50y shots that you can just throw in there and count on them stopping.

    Any suggestions?

You mustn't have looked very hard.

Anyway, you generally get what you pay for so the alternatives to the Pro V aren't that cheap, the likes of Taylormade Penta, the softer Callaway, Nike balls are all fairly similar in price.

You can buy Srixon AD33 balls which are somewhere in the middle, in that they are cheapish, but won't spin half as much around the green for that extra bite but are definitely going to bite more than, say, a Pinnacle.

Otherwise I'd suggest you either buy some 2nd hand Pro V's or just be willing to sacrifice on performance for the sake of cost.

Ive never been one for big spending money on balls, alway figured it was more of a low handicap thing ( im off 18 ) and I loose too many. Found one of the bridgestones on the 1st today and used it the rest of the way around and though it was excellent, could notice a huge difference.

JJBs are selling secondhand prov1/prov1x's for €11 for 12.
I've picked up 2 boxes already...can't fault the price :)

Try Practice Prov1s. They're brand new, but just have some cosmetic fault. I was in American Golf buying something else last week, I asked the guy there to do me a deal on some balls. He gave me 2 dozen for €40.

    From Titleist Website

"Pro V1 Practice golf balls are conforming products that differ only due to a cosmetic blemish such as paint, ink or registration of stamping. Pro V1 Practice golf balls do not have any construction or performance deficiencies."
    http://www.titleist.com/customer-service/faqs/18/Golf%20Balls.aspx

I would never buy new prov1s with these available.

Are Practice ProV's allowed in competitions? I've heard many many times not to use them in competitions but I never knew why. I always switched to a proper one just in case but never actually found out for sure??

cheap enough?!! Guess that depends on how good you are, wouldn't want to be losing any €2.80 balls myself :D
I've resorted to ebay - can get A/B grade pro v's for roughly €1-€1.50 per ball, quality is fine, definitely good enough to get at least a round out of each ball

Grand for the weekly comps but I prefer new balls in medals, opens etc so I get these:

But usually buying them with twos money!

Yes they are perfectly legal, take a read of the link and Titleist them selves cover all the legalities of balls stamped PRACTICE vs XOUT

Anyone any more up to date golf ball recommendations that would spin a little to help hold these dry greens.

    onlinegolf.eu

Nike Rzn Tour platinum 24 Euro

In my opinion better than the ProV
