Having a think about buying an older mini at the moment, not necessarily a classic though.

I don't know much about them, but have a good buyers guide from a mini forum to consult if I do get to that stage.

What are the different options out there?

Price range I'd be looking in the 2k region so not going to be buying a fully restored minter for that money.

Is there any major difference between the 998cc engine and the 1.3l - in real terms? It would probably be my daily driver used for a short commute so performance isn't a massive issue, I'm assuming the 998cc would have better fuel consumption than the 1.3 and obviously cheaper tax too. In the grand scheme of things these running costs would be negligible over theownership period but I'm still interested to hear from owners or past owners who can offer some knowledge.

What are they like to work on mechanically and how is the availability and price of parts in Ireland?

I know rust is the main issue as with most cars of their vintage but I'd like a bigger understanding of the mini, it's history and the different models and engines as that's where I'm lacking at the minute! Thanks
