Strange wireless connectivity problems...

My laptop (running ubuntu) has stopped picking up the wireless in my house.
It used to work previously. The wireless works fine on the three other laptops (windows) in the house.
My laptop still connects to the wireless in college with no problems. It also seems to pick up the signal from over half a dozen neighbours' wirelesses, but obviously I cannot connect to those.
If I direct the laptop to connect to a hidden wireless network and input our wireless directly, it informs me that there is no signal.

I suspect it is something to do with a crappy UPC connection, as another housemate went for a time without being able to access the internet while it was working for me, but is there anything I can do to perhaps improve my chances of picking up a signal?

    Thanks.

It could well be that there is interference and many routers using the same channel, login to the routers page (192.168.100.1 in web browser address bar) and under wifi settings-channels change to another and see if it helps
