Irish RDS TMC only works on Garmin devices

Been doing some research on this recently, and found out this the hard way.

The service is encrypted and is provided by TrafficNav, a Budapest based company. It's broadcast out of band on RTE 1 88.5MHz in the Dublin area.

So far only Garmin have bought a licence to use it. Going on the number of irate users on Tomtom forums it doesn't look like it's on the way any time soon to Tomtom.

Garmin devices that can receive it are the GTM25 and GTM35 charger/receivers, and compatible Satnav units. The licence is tied to the GTM25/35, and as long as it has a lifetime licence and the maps are up to date then the Irish RDS TMC system should work. (US part nums for these are different, so I don't know if the US version will work here)

My own personal experience around the greater Dublin area is that reception is quite strong and the traffic info is moderately up to date. Interestingly on a recent trip to the UK I found reception very weak in comparison.

This really should be stickied I think.

TomTom has live traffic , so they would have little interest in this any how.
