Contact details of previous owners ? :p

Do you have all paperwork, do you have all sets of keys?

TBH I wouldn't bother asking for previous owner details, there are all sorts of data protection issues with this, and if they refuse to give it to you you'll read all sort of negative things into it where there may be none.

OP, if the car has a timing belt, it'd be worth asking if it's been changed. It depends on the car, so make sure to know at what interval it needs to be changed.

    :pac:

most SH cars these days don't have a service history as far as I can see unless you are buying less than 3yrs old........

thats why I always ask for previous owners name so I can contact them and ask used they service it

no garage is going to give you details of the previous owner on a car that you are only viewing. I would say they could get themselves into trouble if they did. And if buying private the current owner is most likely not goinng to know/remember the previous owners name, let alone contact details..

You would have to ask the DOT in Shannon for the list of previous owners once your name is on the logbook.

I would say legally they couldn't give you the details as it would be a breach of the Data Protection Act.

The old brown paper style logbooks were handy, had all the previous owners names and addresses listed. Think they stopped these early to mid 90's.

They will give the details once just cause and a fee is paid. I have done it before.

    What's "just cause"?
    What's the fee?
    What form do you use?

I've never heard of this before. I'd be well p1ssed off if Shannon started giving out my details without my permission.

I got a solicitor to make the request for me. He said it is quite routine.

What? Surely the previous owner would have to agree?

Nope. There is some 1950's legislation that is used.

How much did it cost in total? What kind of reason do you need to request the information?
