Correcting incorrect durations in MP3 and MP4 files?

Basically have a good few files that show up as being far longer than they actually are meaning it's impossible to flick ahead or behind in them properly. Just wondering if anyone knows of a way to edit just that piece of information because the idea of having to convert everything doesn't really appeal.
