ScanGun Validation Test

I am validating a system for a medical device company - the system uses a scan gun to scan barcodes and record quantities etc.. When a user logs into the scan gun the username and password are shown on the screen - passwords are available then for anyone to copy. Has anyone ever come across this problem?
