HOW OFTEN TO SERVICE FORD FIESTA

    Hi all,

    I am majorly confused on this. I have been told 100 different opinions from mechanics and laymen alike.

    I have a 1999 Ford Fiesta (MK IV, 1.3, Endure-E).

    It was last fully serviced in April 2011, prior to the NCT (which is about 12 months ago). However, I have since clocked up just 6000 miles.

    How often do I need to do a small service (oil change and filter?) and how often do I need to do a full service? (oil, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs etc.)??

    Does it only count by miles clocked up, or by time passed? I need a definitive answer here, guys! I get the feeling that I should be doing something to it since it's been 12 months since it's seen a garage!

    Cheers, Dave

    I'd do the oil and oil filter annually at that mileage, air filter every 2nd year and the plugs as per schedule, they could be 60k mile jobbies or something. Edit, plugs every 2nd year too on that yoke, they can rust into the head if left too long in the 1.3.

    Oil and filter every 10,000 miles OR 1 year.

    In addition to the oil & filter;

    Brake fluid every 2 years,

    Spark plugs and air filter every 30,000 miles or 3 years(although for the price of them, there is no harm doing them more often)

    Coolant change every 4 years.

    Are coolant & brake fluid changes essential?

    Yes, they are equally important items that need servicing.

    It could vary greatly depending on where you go.

    As a guide, we'd be charging €120 for both, €45 for the brake fluid change and €75 for a cooling system pressure test, flush and refill.
